NCR Championships on Nov. 28, 1999
August 31, 1999

The National Capital Region (NCR) Championships will be held on November 28, 1999 in Marikina, Metro Manila. This event will feature players fom all over Metro Manila, which is the national capital of the Philippines. They will be representing the various cities and municipalities in the Metro Manila area, and the winners get to represent the National Capital Region in the national championship being held next year. The venue is still being finalized and will be announced very soon.

Gym moves to a new location
July 27, 1999

ATBAP has just recently relocated from its former gym in 137 Katipunan Road, St. Ignatius Village in Quezon City.The new ATBAP gym is located in Santiago Building, No. 3 West 4th St., West Triangle, Quezon Ave. in Quezon City. It will continue to house the Muay Thai training of its members there, inside newer and roomier facilities.

Schedule of upcoming competitions
July 24, 1999

Upcoming Muay Thai competitions being organized by ATBAP are the National Capital Region (NCR) Championships this coming November 1999, the 6th National Amateur Muay Thai Championships in May 2000 and the Southeast Asia Amateur Muay Thai Championships during October/November 2000. The SEA Championship event is entitled the 1st President Joseph Ejercito Estrada Cup and is hosted by the Philippines. Sanctioned by the Southeast Asia Amateur Muay Thai Federation (SEA-AMF), it will feature the best Amateur Muay Thai fighters representing their respective countries in the Southeast Asia region.

The Amateur Thai Boxing Association of the Philippines (ATBAP) is not connected in any way to the Amateur Muay Thai Association of the Philippines (AMTAP), a small breakaway group of former ATBAP members. ATBAP remains as the one and only national organization for Amateur Muay Thai in the Philippines, officially recognized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Olympic Commitee (POC) and the International Federation of Muay Thai Amateur (IFMA).

ATBAP and Muay Thai featured in Philippine Star
July 12, 1999

Sportswriter and commentator Bill Velasco featured ATBAP and Muay Thai in his column The Game of My Life  on the July 12, 1999 edition of the Philippine Star. In his column entitled "Muay Thai brings quiet glory", Mr. Velasco talked about the development of Thai boxing in the Philippines as well as ATBAP's role in its continuing development. He also featured excerpts of an interview with ATBAP's Orlando Lapuz, and called out for more support for Muay Thai in the Philippines. click here to read the article

Muay Thai featured on Studio 23's Knockout!
July 11, 1999

ATBAP members 1998 Asian Games silver medalist Randy Lapuz and bronze medalist Rodolfo Baltazar were featured in Knockout! on Studio 23 on the boxing program's July 11 airing over Channel 23. Lapuz and Baltazar, both members of the bemedalled RP Muay Thai National Team, sparred for several rounds to promote Muay Thai on Philippine television.

Muay Thai not included in coming SEA Games in Brunei
June 1999

For the upcoming South East Asian (SEA) Games in August 1999, Muay Thai will not be among the events to be held. There is no governing body for Amateur Muay Thai in the host country Brunei, which unfortunately would have been responsible for the holding of Muay Thai events during the SEA Games.

5th National Amateur Muay Thai Championships
May 21-23, 1999

ATBAP recently concluded its National Championships on May 21-23, 1999 at the Pasay City Sports Complex. Teams representing  the NCR, Regions I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX and XI converged to fight it out for the chance to secure berths in the RP Muay Thai National Team, who will represent the Philippines in upcoming international competitions. The winning athletes received trophies courtesy of The Royal Thai Embassy in the Philippines. View the pictures and results of the 5th National Championships
